What is Vinticuffs?
Vinticuffs! is a web community based around legacy video games. Modern titles have taken the spotlight, and left older games out to dry - Vinticuffs looks to breathe new life into these forgotten games by providing tools for users to collaborate efforts to organize game meetings, advertise servers, discover new content, and discuss aspects of their favorite video games.
Why a Halloween event?
I've always been a huge fan of the horror genre. I don't really have the resources to actually run out and enjoy the holiday like I used to, but there's so many great horror based games that can be played to get yourself in the mood for the season!
With that, queue this string of events. It's a time to sit back and enjoy two of my favorite things - horror, and older video games - while inviting others to join along for the fun.
Will you Host/Stream X?
The core of Vinticuffs is to provide an environment for users to collaborate to play any older game together - so with that said. If you are interested in a particular game, please inform me and I can either attempt to create and host the event myself, or post it on all of the V! social media sites and promote it to attempt to get you traffic.
As for streaming - if you're interested in recording a Let's Play and would like to share it with the V! channel, or would like to stream a supported game, I will also promote that as well.
Though, please consider the following.
Hey! That's not Retro!
You're right, some of these titles are not technically legacy at all. There's some different mechanics and formulas working into what's supported at V!. Newer/Popular titles will generally remain unsupported, but some circumstances make them a special case.
Each game goes through the following process: ( AGE > LIFE > HOMAGE ) - BLACKLIST
AGE, as you can presume, is the over-all age of the game. By default, the bulk of games older than 10 years (of current year) will generally be accepted. There's a few special occasions, which will be brought up later.
LIFE, some games - good or bad - simply does not retain it's playerbase long. Which creates and over-all frustrating experience trying to find an online game. PREY and the STALKER franchises highlight this critera - as while they're not quite a decade old yet, barely anyone is playing their online components.
HOMAGE is there to help promote indie developers primarily. This is for things such as Custom Total-Conversion Modifications - and indie releases that attempt to either recreate/reenvision an older video game. Half-Life 2 mod: Fortress Forever is a gleaming example of this.
BLACKLIST. Unfortunately, there are some games out there that fall under one or more of the above critera - but STILL have a HUGE playerbase. These are titles/franchises that simply are not supported. This list is still being debated in full, but things like Counter-Strike will probably never be supported at V!. The reasoning for this is so that we can protect our over-all envision, but preventing the site from becoming extremely one-sided. There's plenty of extremely active CS communities, they are still popping up daily.
Anything I can do to help?
Advertisement! It's always good to have word of mouth traffic, since general advertisment can be quite pricey! Simply share this event; or one of our social networking links (sidebar) to your pals. It'd be highly appreciated.
Game Server Hosting. If you already have a pre-existing server running a game on the events page, that you are either not using or will let us borrow for the night. Feel free to contact me. I will want to change the server name, and possbily install some new maps - so I'll also need FTP/RCON or if you want to do it all that works as well.
This website sucks!
Thanks :)
